Modesty for men?

Kap Swim Halal Swimwear for Men

Halal Swim shorts? Modesty? “What are you talking about? It’s just swimming!”

We understand that this can be a bit confusing so allow us to explain. The #shoretosujud lifestyle is one that Kap Swim takes seriously. In case anyone needs clarification, it means that our product will keep you covered and allow you to perform your salah without having to change.

The conversation around modesty in Islam has been centred around women for a long time. So long even, that we, as men, forget that there are certain requirements that we must follow as well. The Foundation Short makes it easy to follow your obligations without having to worry.

In Islam, both men and women have to cover up. But the requirements vary for both genders. For men, one of these requirements is having to cover the “awrah” or intimate parts at all times - except from one’s spouse, or in any other situations of necessity. This area is from the navel to the knees. It also means, that if this area is covered, it is acceptable for a man to perform his religious duties including performing salah.

Interestingly enough, according to multiple sources swimming is an act of virtue in Islam, so it is only appropriate that one be dressed modestly. However, dressing appropriately to go swimming is usually an afterthought. Sometimes, we think “it’s just swimming” or “I’ll just be on the beach for a few hours” as not to inconvenience ourselves. But at the end of the day, modesty in Islam is held in high regard and appropriate dress is one way to exercise modesty...even if it’s only for a few hours.

So the next time you’re going swimming, or are in the market for new shorts, please remember that although we love shores, we love sujud even more.

“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and be modest. That is purer for them.”

(Quran, 24:30)
